There is still destruction all over from Katrina.

  • The trombone player in this street band invited Jessie to sit with him. :)
  • Our front row seats on the Natchez, the steam powered paddleboat we toured the Mississippi on (New Orleans on the left). It was hot, as usual.
  • Here is a panorama of the New Orleans waterfront.
  • The paddlewheel was huge (no good sense of scale in this shot).

  • There is still destruction all over from Katrina.
  • This is the second largest sugar plant in the world (largest in Brazil).
  • Oil tankers come in from all over the world to bring us our fix of crude. It takes 3 days to pump the crude out of each ship!
  • There was a little dixieland band on board.
  • This guy was frozen in this position. You can see the very corner of his tip jar in the lower right of the picture. People would walk right up to him to see if he was real. It was very hard to tell - partly because he was so big - he looked like a statue.
  • Jessie finally made it to Cafe Du Monde, which she had planned months in advance. Unbelievable a coffee shop that serves two things (lattes and beignets) could be this popular. It is open 24 hours a day and when we first got there around 10:30 AM, had a line around the corner.
  • I enjoyed listening to these guys jam while the girls were shopping in the air conditioned shops.
  • I took this through the window of our tour bus. If you look at the original (full quality) version of this photo, you will see that the bricks about 2/3 of the way up the building are a darker yellow. This is true throughout this area of the city. This was the water line for days after Katrina. There was so much oil in the water that it stained everything at this elevation!

  • Jessie ordered the ribs for dinner.
  • And she had no trouble doing them in. :)
